The Pale Parade

One of the trends I love for Spring is lipstick in pale matte colors like purple, pink, and coral.

These are my faves:

Shiseido Perfect Rouge RS320 - The perfect purple, not too dark & not too opaque.

Revlon Creme Primrose 668 - Milky lavender good for layering on top of other colors.

Mac Viva Glam Gaga A61 - Perfect bubble gum pink.

Illamasqua in Obey - Pale coral that is super matte & opaque.

Shiseido Perfect Rouge Matte PK224 - Flattering coral that's not too orange.

Makeup tip:  Apply lipstick in a quick sweep, then mash it down with your finger.  It looks like you've had it on for awhile and not like it's just sitting on top of your lips.

Oscar Backstage Fall '12

Oscar de la Renta showed some beautiful gowns on the runway at New York Fashion Week.  Gucci Westman designed the makeup which was very doll-like with a light brown smokey eye, pink cheeks, pink lips and of course, a lot of luminescence on the skin.  Orlando Pita designed the hair which was built up around the crown and sides to create a lot of volume and secured into a ponytail in the back.

Overall it was a modern Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast at Tiffanys".  Nothing bad could happen to a girl at Tiffany's, right?

Anniversary Post

Today is my 4 year Anniversary!
Four years ago today Dylan and I tied the knot.  We commemorated the day by riding our bikes to City Hall to visit the place where it all happened and sure enough, there was a wedding taking place on the very spot!  Afterwards, we went to a new cafe in the TL called Farm Table.  It's tiny, intimate & delicious!

Farm Table offers some excellent homemade fare, plus great coffee drinks.  It's located at 754 Post St between Leavenworth and Hyde.

Backstage at Rag & Bone Fall '12

Now that New York Fashion Week is over and I am back home I can look back at the trends in makeup and hair that I noticed.

Back stage at the Rag & Bone show we were all so busy getting the girls ready that I didn't have much time to snap pictures.

The makeup that Gucci Westman designed was a really pale face with lots of luminescence, a black lined eye - heavier on the lower lid and ending in a blunt squared off edge, contoured cheeks, and a stained lip.

Using these products:   Becca is Gucci's favorite illuminator and we used it at every show.  I bought some for $41 at Duane Reade.  The Revlon creme shadow palette is also a favorite and we used the medium matte brown as contour.  The liquid liner was used in the corner for emphasis and a thin liquid line was applied to the upper lash line.  Mascara on upper lids.  The lip stains are Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable in Adore and Crush.  We blended them and then dabbed them off to leave a matte finish.

GLAMOUR Story March Issue

I did the makeup for this fashion story in March issue of Glamour Magazine.
Editor:  Anne Christensen
Photographer:  Hans Feurer
Hair:  Ward
Models:  Lina (left) and Kelly (right) at Ford

We shot this on the streets of Miami.  On Kelly I did a bright orange eye and on Lina I used a cobalt blue liquid eyeliner. I wanted something that would pop on each girl.  The rest of the makeup I kept very clean and fresh because the clothes have so much going on.

I'm in New York right now, working backstage at lots of Fashion Shows so stay tuned!
